Federal
law allows you to ship a pistol to a gunsmith for repair or modification without
extra paperwork. You must ship by a common carrier, i.e., Fed Ex or UPS and
NEVER by the Post Ofice. If you ship via UPS, you MUST send it by next day
air. Fed Ex is more lenient and their service costs less. Fed Ex will ship
overnight or second day. Usually next day is the best option, since it is out of
friendly hands only overnight. Always insure your gun for full value. Please
also send an eMail so that I will know your gun is in transit and when it will
arrive. Pack your gun carefully so that it does not rattle or shift around.
Never, ever, ship ammunition with a gun. Always include at least one magazine so
that it can be range tested with your magazine(s). When you wrap your
package, do not tie it with string. I prefer to use a paper filament tape and I
cover all points where the package could break open. Federal law does NOT
require you to declare the contents to a semi-intelligent clerk, who will,
believe me, go into a panic and begin to scream when you say the word
"gun." She would be convinced that you are a terrorist and call 911. For this
reason, many of my regular customers simply declare the contents as "Precision
Tools". If you need to speak to me personally, please eMail me and ask for a
telephone number where I can be reached. I have one number where I can be
reached after normal business hours.
